JOEL ABELSON
El Cerrito, California native Mr. Joel Abelson, focuses his practice in the areas of labor and employment, estate planning, estate administration, and probate. As a second-generation estate planning attorney, Mr. Joel Abelson draws upon his life experience and knowledge of the law to develop effective estate plans for individuals and families. Mr. Joel Abelson also dedicates much of his time representing clients in probate matters and provides practical guidance in trust and estate administration matters.
Mr. Joel Abelson’s labor and employment practice focuses primarily on public safety labor unions. As a long-time union member and leader, Joel has a diverse knowledge of the needs of labor unions. He continues to work as a veteran fire captain in the SF bay area and currently serves on the board of his local. Mr. Joel Abelson served his Union as President of the Local for over seven years.
In addition to representing Unions in traditional labor matters, Mr. Joel Abelson also has a strong background in political action. As a graduate of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Political Training Academy, he skillfully guides locals in their political activities at the state and local level. In February 2017, Mr. Joel Abelson completed the Harvard Trade Union Program (an executive mid-career program for union leaders founded in 1942) at Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Mr. Joel Abelson continues to serve as a delegate for his local at California Professional Firefighters (CPF), San Mateo County Labor Council and the California Labor Federation. Mr. Joel Abelson is also a member of the Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC.)
